Jens Giegerich studied chemistry at the Julius-Maximilians-University of Würzburg and worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry from 2012 - 2015. After receiving his doctorate with honors in 2015, he worked at the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) as a consultant for the Cleaning Systems Association. Already there, standardization in relation to ecodesign was a focus.
Since October 2016, Jens Giegerich has been working in Technical Regulatory Affairs for Vorwerk & Co. KG. The family-owned company Vorwerk is, since its foundation in 1883, a manufacturer of household appliances, especially vacuum cleaners and multifunctional kitchen machines. He is responsible for the topics of product-related environmental protection and sustainability. His responsibilities include participation in various national, European and international standardization committees. In the context of standardization, he chairs national working groups on material efficiency and performance as well as material efficiency, circular economy and safety at DKE. At European level, Jens Giegerich chairs the durability and recyclability and recycled content working groups of CEN-CLC JTC10 (Energy-related products - Material Efficiency Aspects for Ecodesign). He was awarded the DIN young professional award in 2019 and the IEC young professional award in 2020 for his contributions to standardization in the field of circular economy/material efficiency.
In addition, Jens Giegerich assists in the cross-industry coordination of the topic in standardization as deputy chairman of the DIN DKE KU Expert Advisory Board 2 - Circular Economy and was appointed to the German Strategy Forum on Standardization in 2023.
